Nikolai Schnittke, MD, PhD

Dr. Nikolai Schnittke earned bachelor’s degrees in molecular and cell biology and biochemistry from University of California, Berkeley, and completed the MD/PhD – Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) at Tufts University, where his research focused on neuronal regeneration after injury. He went on to train in emergency medicine at the University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics as a resident and fellow, where he developed a strong interest in point-of-care ultrasound as a rapid diagnostic tool for acute illness.
Dr. Schnittke’s work centers on expanding access to ultrasound beyond traditional hospital settings, particularly in prehospital and global health environments. To address gaps in training and expertise, he joined the Center for Regenerative Medicine at Oregon Health & Science University in 2020 to study machine learning approaches to ultrasound education and image interpretation. His goal is to make ultrasound more accessible at the bedside, supporting timely clinical decision-making.
