Why UWEM? The entire EM program immediately made me feel at home, even as someone visiting for the first time on my M4 Sub-intership. Walking into the ED for each shift, I was thoroughly surprised by the amazing hands-on teaching among the faculty and residents, and the commitment each member of the care team had to patient health and safety.
After my rotation ended, I left knowing this program would be where I could receive the mentorship and support to be the best version of myself!

Georgia Graham, MD

MD: Southern Illinois University School of Medicine

Career Interests: I’m excited to explore everything but especially Med Flight and ultrasound!
Personal Hobbies: I really enjoy doing makeup and anything fashion! I also started sewing during med school – my mom and I enjoy doing it together. I love traveling and trying new foods and going to concerts and music festivals. I did gymnastics and cheerleading for over 10 years growing up, so a hidden talent of mine is that I can jump into the splits at a moment’s notice.
Why UWEM? I had a great interview day experience and second look! I really connected with the people and could imagine myself being happy and supported in residency here. I’ve also heard great things about Madison itself and love it already!

Why UWEM? Because of the diverse clinical experiences available across multiple training sites, strong exposure to pediatrics, and the range of off-service rotations that allow for career exploration. I was also drawn to the program because of its strong commitment to Wisconsin. Plus, the people here are the best!

Why UWEM? During interview day, I could tell the culture at UW is very collaborative, and the supportive training environment would allow me to shine! The residents and faculty all have great relationships with each other and were very welcoming during interview day. Also, the option to fly with Med Flight is such a unique learning opportunity! I am excited to be a part of the UW Emergency Medicine team!

Personal Hobbies: I love the outdoors: camping, fishing, hunting, etc. My wife and I have a 5×8 teardrop camper that we’ve towed around most of Wisconsin and the Mountain West. I also love cooking and can play the piano.
Why UWEM? As a visiting student, I was drawn by the faculty who were committed to teaching and supporting students and residents in any way they could. I felt genuinely welcomed and could see how invested both residents and faculty were in ensuring I had the best experience and opportunity to practice emergency medicine at a top academic center. I was also greatly interested in the high degree of EMS and prehospital engagement present at UW, due in part to my prior background as a firefighter/EMT.

Personal Hobbies: I played Quidditch (now Quadball) in and out of college, even winning a national championship in 2019! I’ve also helped create a small section of the Appalachian Trail with the Green Mountain Club in Vermont.
Why UWEM? I chose UW because of its dedication to producing well-rounded EM physicians. The program’s emphasis on giving the highest level of care to patients, both in the hospital and in the prehospital environment, robust academic and research experience, and support for residents made it the obvious choice for me.
On top of all that, Madison is a wonderful place to live and train! While I didn’t get a chance to visit as a medical student, it was clear to me from my interview day and chats with residents that the program values its residents and gives us endless opportunities to carve our niche in EM while laying the foundation for us to pursue any career or additional training after residency.

Why UWEM? The people here are everything. From the faculty, to the residents, to the department leadership, I have always felt at home at UW and knew that my training was in great hands every step of the way. There is a feeling of community here that drew me in from the first day I walked into our ED. You also can’t beat the city of Madison. Why UWEM? As a native Wisconsinite, I am thrilled to have the opportunity to stay close to home and serve a community that I love. As a medical student, I had the opportunity to work with a lot of great people in the ED. Being able to watch the senior residents and see how independent and confident they were in their work was inspiring. That really proved to me that picking UW for residency would mean I would get great training with great people.
