Why UWEM? I was looking for both excellent clinical training and opportunities for impactful scholarship and research. UW emphatically checked both boxes, but the interview day really sold me; it was apparent that every faculty member had thoughtfully read what I had written, and each interview felt like an unusually open, meaningful conversation. Throw in the chance to be close to my family again after twenty years away, and to introduce my son to frozen custard and cheese curds, and it really was the complete package.

Why UWEM? 1. When I did my away rotation at UW, I loved the culture of support toward learners! Faculty are genuinely invested in our wellbeing and improvement as people and clinicians. The opportunities and resources at the institution are just a huge plus to help me grow in my interest areas (and areas that I don’t even know I’m interested in yet!).
2. Having a strong sense of community along with an outstanding academic program were some of the most important factors in choosing residency for me. UW-Madison was a place where I felt I could have all of that: excellent training coupled with a support network in my program and with family nearby. My partner’s family lives around Madison, and among many other things, we’re excited to see our nieces grow!
3. Madison is a beautiful and lively place to live! I’m looking forward to all the biking (yes, even in winter!), great food, and finally getting to stand on a frozen lake!

As a Chickasaw, not only is stickball insanely fun; it’s also a way to connect with my community and preserve our history.
