Why I chose UW: Greg Raupp, MD, MSW

Meet Gregory Raupp, MD, MSW (he/him), class of 2026.

Q: Hometown?
A: New Berlin, Wisconsin

Q: What’s your educational background prior to residency?
A: I completed my bachelor’s degree in psychology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I obtained my MD from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health and completed my Masters of Social Work degree at Fayetteville State University (Army ROTC).

Q: Why did you choose the University of Wisconsin emergency medicine residency program?
A: It has become my home! The department has a broad swath of opportunities and tracks available to learners, and the whole department is incredibly supportive of learners. I rotated as a medical student and met some of the wonderful staff. The whole department provides incredible support to residents, and I knew the faculty would challenge me to grow into an excellent, well-rounded clinician.

Q: What are some of your medical interests?
A: I like everything – that’s why I chose Emergency Medicine! EMS, Med Flight, ultrasound, medical education, pediatric emergency medicine, and administration are my top…six.

Q: What job would you do if you weren’t a physician?
A: Firefighter. I really enjoyed getting to experience their job first-hand during intern orientation at UW.

Q: What activities keep you busy and grounded outside of work?
A: Playing with my daughter and taking family walks around the neighborhood top the list now. I also like to get into nature, play soccer, and enjoy tabletop games like Dungeons & Dragons.
