Why I chose UW: Morgan Braswell, MD, MS

Meet Morgan Braswell, MD, MS (they/them), class of 2026.

Q: Hometown?
A: Alexandria, Virginia

Q: What’s your educational background prior to residency?
A: I completed my bachelor’s degree in biology at the Oregon State University in Corvallis. I obtained my MD and MS degrees from George Washington University, where I focused my master’s studies on anatomical and translational sciences.

Q: Why did you choose the University of Wisconsin emergency medicine residency program?
A: The family feel of the program, where residents are supported both academically and in their personal lives. The program continually strives for improvement, turning feedback into action. The diversity of training sites and opportunities.

Q: What are some of your medical interests?
A: Wilderness medicine. It’s what made me switch from ecology to medicine in the first place!

Q: What job would you do if you weren’t a physician?
A: Something in ecology, ideally designing outdoor gear.

Q: What activities keep you busy and grounded outside of work?
A: I love climbing/ice climbing, cycling, backpacking, and visiting local breweries.

Q: What’s a fun fact people may not know about you?
A: I’ve driven across the country 7 times along 7 different routes with varying combinations of cats and dogs.
